Pastor C. Thomas Snapp has retired as of July 31, 2008. We are currently being served by an interim pastor while we call a new pastor.

Pastor Schuman

We are pleased to introduce you to our Interim Pastor, The Rev. Walter Schuman.  Pastor Walter
received his undergraduate degree from Muhlenberg College, attended the Lutheran Theological
Seminary at Philadelphia,  and earned post-graduate degrees from Princeton Theological
Seminary.

After pastoring two Pennyslvania congregations, he taught in the religious studies program at
Ashland University (Ohio) for over 30 years while also serving as part-time pastor to two rural
Lutheran parishes.

In addition to ethical studies, Pastor Schuman has taught Comparative Christianity and Islam and
courses on end-of-life issues (he assisted in establishing a hospice program in Ohio).  He is a
published author of books and articles on Christian ethics and on grief and dying, and has
lectured in the U.S. and Japan.  Pastor Schuman has served previously as an interim in this
conference (Christ Lutheran, Cape Coral). Pastor Walter views ministry as a cooperative venture
of both pastor and laity.  He sees his role as preparing and equipping each of us to be fully
involved in the care and support of our church family.

Gifted in teaching, preaching and pastoral care, he lists his  current special interests as
spirituality, Celtic traditions, and conservation, and is musically active as a violinist.  Pastor
Walter lives on Sanibel with his wife, Betsy.  They have three children, Cynthia, Daniel and
Kristen.
